As a result, he is fully and completely God, united with the Father and the Son from eternity, and one with them in power and glory. Whatever God does, the Holy Spirit does, because in all of God's works, all three persons are indivisibly present, both in creation, in providence, and in redemption. As a result, when we say the Holy Spirit acts, we must always remember that the Father and the Son are also present in the action.

At the same time, the Holy Spirit is neither the Father nor the Son, because these three have been distinct from eternity. There is only one God, so the Holy Spirit is the same as the Father and the Son in terms of being or essence, but is completely distinct in terms of personhood. Based on this, a series of actions are attributed to the Holy Spirit (or He is the agent of them), for example, He alone descended on the Feast of Pentecost, but even in this case, the Father sent Him thru the Son and in the Son.

In terms of the eternal relations of the three persons of the Trinity, the Spirit proceeds from the Father (John 15:26). In this sense, the Spirit is from the Father, a relationship that does not indicate any subordination or superiority of one over the other or any temporal precedence, but rather refers to a relational and hypostatic (personal) order. Understanding this matter is beyond our comprehension because it pertains to the mystery of God's inner life. At the same time, we strive to understand thru faith. In alignment with this eternal descent, the Father sends the Spirit thru the Son and in the Son and in relation to all His works in creation, including our salvation (Acts 1:8; Galatians 4:4-6). To this reality Mission It is said (to send).

We said that the Son also plays an active role in sending the Spirit. Jesus refers to the descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost by the Father and in response to His request or in His name (John 14:16, 26). He also says that he himself will send the Holy Spirit (16:7), and later breathes on the disciples and says, "Receive the Holy Spirit" (20:22).

Endless debates have taken place regarding the role of the Son in the relationship between the Father and the Holy Spirit. In the Bible, it is never explicitly stated whether the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Son as well as from the Father. In the Nicene Creed, it is simply stated that the Holy Spirit "proceeds from the Father." The Latin Church later added the word filioque He also added (and the Son) to the creed and faced opposition and protests from the Eastern churches. The Western Church believed that God gave everything to the Son, including the breathing (or issuing) of the Spirit, while the Eastern Church believed that this view contradicts the belief that God the Father is the personal source of the Holy Spirit and the Son, and moreover obscures the distinction between the Son and the Holy Spirit. However, both the Eastern Churches (Eastern Orthodoxy) and the Western Churches (Roman Catholicism and Protestantism) agree that since the Trinity is indivisible, all three generally play a role.

Peter also says that lying to the Holy Spirit is lying to God, in fact, he equates the Holy Spirit with God (Acts 5:3-4). The things he does are things that only God is capable of doing. The Holy Spirit is frequently mentioned in the phrases related to the Trinity found in the New Testament epistles. It should be remembered that theos (God) usually for the father and kyrios (The Lord) is usually used for the Son. The Holy Spirit, who is God, possesses all divine attributes completely (for example, Psalms 139: 7-10). As a result, the three persons together are not greater than the Holy Spirit in a separate state.

It must be emphasized that the Holy Spirit is not an impersonal force or power. The Bible describes Him according to personal characteristics. He grieves over sin (Ephesians 4:30), encourages and compels (John 14-16), intercedes (Romans 8:26-27), testifies (John 16:12-15), calls (Galatians 4:6), speaks (Mark 13:11), and tells believers and apostles what to do (Acts 8:29, 39; 16:6-10). He has consciousness (Romans 8:27) and employs our intelligence in collaboration with us (1 Corinthians 12:1-3; 2 Corinthians 10:3-6). He is selfless and draws attention to Jesus the Son, not to himself (John 16:14-15; also see 13:31-32; 17:1-26) and brings forth from us the confession that Jesus is Lord (1 Corinthians 12:1-3). He is invisible and His nature is different from ours. The Greek word pneuma (Soul) is a neutral word, but this has nothing to do with contemporary discussions about gender because God is a being without gender.

Spirit, creation, and providence

The fact that the Holy Spirit is inseparably associated with the Father and the Son is evident in most places, including in Genesis 1:2 That says: "The Spirit of God hovered over the waters." Elsewhere, when we witness poetic reflections on creation in the Old Testament, the Spirit, or breath, of God is mentioned (Psalms 33: 6 – 9). This is also stated in the Nicene Creed: "He is the author and giver of life." As a result, He is constantly active in providence, granting, sustaining, and ending life (Psalms 104:29-30).

The Holy Spirit in the Life and Ministry of Jesus

During the life and ministry of Jesus, the incarnate Son, the Holy Spirit was active. While Jesus repeatedly testifies that the Father sent him (for example, in John 4:34; 5:19-24; 36-38; 6:29-33, 38-39, 44, 57), the Holy Spirit conceived him (Matthew 1:20; Luke 1:34-35). At every stage, from the accounts of Jesus' birth and childhood to the beginning of his public ministry, Luke refers to the presence and activity of the Holy Spirit (Luke 1:34-35, 41-42; 2:25-27; 3:16, 21-22; 4:1, 14-19). The baptism of Jesus is one of these important events, when the Father acknowledges Him as His Son and at the same time the Holy Spirit descends and envelops Him (Matthew 3:13-17), marking the beginning of His mission and demonstrating the reality of His ongoing power. At the time when Jesus was incarnated and faced the temptations of the devil, the Holy Spirit also showed His support (Luke 4: 1-13).

"It was thru the eternal Holy Spirit that Jesus offered himself to the Father on the cross (Hebrews 9:14) – a clear reference to the Holy Spirit and not some abstract psychological concept; note that 'God' is usually used in the New Testament to refer to the Father." Similarly, the Father raised Jesus from the dead by the Holy Spirit, and we too will be made alive in the same way (Romans 8:10-11).

In the context of the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles, the ascension of Jesus and the descent of the Holy Spirit, which occurs a few days later on Pentecost, are related (Acts 1:8-11). The background of the topic is Elijah's ascension to heaven, for which Elisha had previously asked for a double portion of his spirit, and Elijah told him that it would happen if he saw him when he was taken from him (2 Kings 2:9-12).

Here, the apostles witness Jesus' departure, and in the following chapters, the descent of the Holy Spirit is mentioned. Jesus himself relates the gift of the descent of the Holy Spirit to his ascension (John 7:37-39). In this way, the Holy Spirit strengthens the apostles' mission and expands the Church, as described in the Acts of the Apostles.

The Holy Spirit and the Church

We have been baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19-20). The Holy Spirit baptizes us into the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:13). Here, the work of the Holy Spirit and the rite of baptism, which is a sign and symbol of entry into the body of Christ, are connected. It is the Holy Spirit who gives us faith and bestows gifts on us with the purpose of benefiting the church, including the calling of those He has chosen (Acts 13: 1-7).

The transformation into the likeness of the Lord Jesus Christ is also accomplished by the Holy Spirit (2 Corinthians 3: 17-19), and it is He who enables us to resist temptation and sin (Romans 8: 12-14). He unites us with Jesus and enables us to feed on Him thru faith at the Lord's Supper. Only someone who is God Himself can do this; only someone who is God can be equal to the Father and the Son. Ultimately, God's ultimate goal is for us to live and flourish forever in the realm governed by the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 15: 35 – 58).

Let us remember that all of this must be interpreted within the context of the indivisible Trinity and the indivisible actions of God. The Holy Spirit does not act alone. He is not separate and does not leave the Father. The Father also does not abandon the Holy Spirit and His Son. All three participate in our salvation, and the Holy Spirit is especially active in these matters.

Source: Ligonier Services

[251,170

post-6743","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-251","category-articles
["GET
